    March 26 VCUSD Update

Dear Vallejo City Unified School District Families,

Solano County Superintendents have made a unified decision to extend school closures through May 1, 2020. This is a coordinated response that represents a continued effort to reduce the number of affected  individuals with COVID-19 and to keep our communities as safe as possible pursuant to the Governor’s Executive Order N-33-20, the current Solano County Order to Shelter At Home, and in consultation with Solano County Public Health. The safety and wellness of students, school personnel, and the community are our highest priority.

Solano County Office of Education and Solano County School Districts will continue to provide remote learning opportunities for our students (please complete the technology survey sent yesterday). Food services will also continue for our students (please see spring break schedule below).

This is difficult and uncharted territory and it will require patience, flexibility , and understanding from all of us. Our ability to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our community will not only help to save lives, but will also determine when schools may reopen safely for students and staff . We are reminded by our Public Health Officials that it is crucial during this temporary school closure that every member of our community follow the illness prevention and social distancing requests made by state and local public health officials. They include:
    • Maintaining social distancing
    • Washing hands often with soap and water
    • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
    • Staying home if you are feeling sick
    • Contacting your healthcare provider if you are experiencing any symptoms such as fever, cough, or difficulty breathing.
    • Engaging  in regular exercise or physical activity.
Meals Service Beginning Monday, March 30th
Beginning Monday, March 30th, we will continue to provide nutritious meals to all children 18 or under. We will offer "grab and go" breakfast and lunch meals and are limiting meal pick-ups to two days per week. We will provide a three day supply of meals on Mondays and a two day supply of meals on Thursdays.
    Meal Pick Up Days/Hours: Mondays & Thursdays 9:00 am  - 11:00 am
    Meal Pick Up Sites:
    • Beverly Hills - 1450 Coronel Avenue (in the parking lot near the cafeteria)
    • Loma Vista - 146 Rainier Avenue (at the entrance doors to the cafeteria)
    • Vallejo High / John Finney Complex - 840 Nebraska Street ( meals will be served across the street from the main Vallejo High campus, at the cafeteria doors facing Nebraska Street)
    • Hogan - 850 Rosewood Avenue (at the side cafeteria doors facing Georgia Street)
    • Bethel - 1800 Ascot Parkway (in the parking lot near the cafeteria/student union)
When available, shelf stable food donated by the Food Bank will also be provided to families during meal services. Meals and provisions will be provided on a first come first serve basis.

    Thank you,

    Adam Clark

Standardize meal service hours are as follows:

    ●        Breakfast 8:00 am - 9:00 am

    ●        Lunch 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

VCUSD will offer multiple opportunities for Distance Learning, however, due to the fact that not all students have access to devices or Wi-Fi, participation is not required. The only exception may be for individual situations, e.g., completing credit recovery courses online. Otherwise, all online work and resources is supplemental.

Lastly, public health officials have advised that students should stay home and practice social distancing. Students should not have normal social interaction with peers and the community. Please do your part so that our school closure contributes to our community health and efforts with preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Thank you for your continued support. Together, as a community, we will get through this.

    Adam Clark, Superintendente

Attention Vallejo City Unified School District Stakeholders,

Vallejo City Unified School District and Solano school administrators continue to follow guidance from Solano County Public Health and the California Department of Public Health as the COVID-19 situation continually evolves. In light of the ever-changing situation, Solano County schools will be closed to students for two weeks beginning Monday, March 16, 2020.  We will make a determination at that time about any further closures.

We did not take this decision lightly and recognize that this may cause a hardship for some families. Each school district and charter school will continue to communicate directly with families and staff with updates about re-opening, learning alternatives, and the availability of school meals.

School administrators across Solano County appreciate the proactive illness prevention steps that our families and staff have taken. Illness prevention steps make a significant difference in safeguarding the health of our communities, and we encourage continued attention in this effort

I will continue to provide updates through Parent Square and the VCUSD website.

School Will Be closed to students from March 16, 2020 thru April 13, 2020

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
